New York City Fun

It’s been a big month for some terrific travels. Raoul and I just spent six splendid days in New York City with our youngest son, Morgan and his wife, Eileen. They live on the upper West Side, and joined us for a marathon of eating, drinking, shopping and hanging out. I timed this trip to take in two events at the Manhattan Cocktail Classic. I’ll share those highlights next week. They were absolutely outstanding. We celebrated my 60th birthday at ABC Kitchen. It was a most memorable meal – the setting, food, cocktails, and surprise birthday cupcake (on a chocolate sauce work-of-art plate) were divine. Above is a picture of my Gojin & Juice cocktail.
The restaurant is off of the main floor of ABC Carpet & Home, a mecca of uber cool design. Their window displays never fail to take my breath away.
Every time we visit NYC, we try to hit new places. This visit we explored Kaulstyan’s – a landmark of specialty foods, with a fantastic selection of herbs and spices.
I bought some challenging to find ingredients for some future bitters.
Eataly was a surprise visit stop. Morgan scored some extra tour guide points by suggesting this place. Eataly is an immense Italian specialty foods market with numerous restaurants. We jetted through it, making some time to photograph and buy a couple of things, like the appealing Italian sodas. There is always time to try a new ginger beer or ale!
