Beautiful Borage -
Last summer, I added a borage plant to our edibles garden. I wanted to learn more about edible flowers, and borage has captivating blue blossoms. It reseeded itself nicely, and this year I have at least half a dozen plants. The blossoms and leaves have a pleasant cucumber taste. So far I’m mainly using the flowers as cocktail garnishes. They share their mild cucumbery essence, and enhance so many cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.
And before I go any further, I want to thank my friend Julie Sotomura of Photomura Images for helping me set up the photo shoot of the previous picture. I am so grateful she shares her time, friendship and photography super powers with me.
Back to the borage. Part of my morning routine, is taking a spin around our garden to see what is new. A few days ago, the rains had added too much weight to my top heavy plant. Momentary sadness.
The broken branches made a spectacular bouquet.
Then I decided to try steeping some borage in white balsamic vinegar. Within minutes the blue blossoms started changing to a pinkish hue. Magic! I’m glad I made some room in our garden for borage.
