Jack-O-Lantern Jumble –

I really love fall. It’s my favorite season, and that is saying a lot, because once summer finally shows up in the Northwest, it is paradise. I love the traditions that accompany each season. Once a year, I make this addictive snack – Jack-O-Lantern Jumble. It’s a variation of chex mix/merry mix with the addition of peanut butter and candy corn. I made a giant batch this year, so I could package some up for party favors at a recent dinner party we hosted. Everyone had a nice bag of it waiting for them at their place setting. With a big bow, and a shiny cellophane bag, the Jack-O-Lantern Jumble does double duty as table decor. I originally got the recipe from my friend Nancy, and have tweaked it just a bit over the years. Here is the recipe.

Jack-O-Lantern Jumble

Have on hand 2 cups candy corn.

Mix together in a large bowl:

  • 4 cups corn chex cereal
  • 4 cups rice chex cereal
  • 1 cup salted peanuts
  • 1 cup whole almonds

In a small saucepan over medium heat combine:

  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 6 tablespoons peanut butter or almond butter
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Stir until melted, then pour over cereal mixture and toss to coat.

Spread onto a 15 x10 inch baking dish. Bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool. Add the candy corn.

Treat yourself to a bowl of Jack-O-Lantern Jumble, make yourself a Ginger Mint Julep and go find some fall sunshine to soak up.
