Mama Beth’s Poptail –

Sometimes you just need to make cocktails lickety-split. I recently spent most of a Sunday preparing an everything-from-scratch Mexican feast for a some extra special family members. They were well worth all the extra time in the kitchen. I had the best intentions of creating a fancy new Mama Beth cocktail featuring tequila for our pre-dinner cocktail. Well, I ran out of time, but relied on a favorite formula of mine. Booze + a little something sweet + a little something tart. I had some cans of San Pellegrino Aranciata Rossa (blood orange soda) in our pantry. That was my something sweet. And lemon and lime for my tart. I went with a reposado tequila to add a subtle layer of smokey. In no time at all, we had tasty “poptails”. I ran across that clever word while cruising Pinterest. Here’s my recipe for:

Mama Beth’s Poptail

  • 2 ounces reposado tequila
  • good squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • good squeeze of fresh lime juice
  • 4 ounces San Pellegrino Aranciata Rossa (blood orange soda)

Mix directly in your glass. Add ice.
