Terrific Taiwan Trip
Posted on Monday, December 3rd, 2012
Our latest travels took us to Taiwan for 12 days of feasting, drinking incredible cocktails, and discovering the beauty of this country. This smoky shot is from a Taoist temple in Tapei.
Another very vibrant temple in the Alishan area – mountains in the southern part of Taiwan.
The main focus of our trip was to celebrate the wedding of this beautiful couple, Bob Hsu and Eliza LienFen Lin. Bob is our daughter-in-law Eileen’s brother. Raoul and I felt honored to be included in the wonderful wedding festivities – a fascinating tea ceremony in the bride’s home, and TWO wedding feasts.
Here’s our happy travel troop, with Cecilia – Bob and Eileen’s Mom, on our road trip, which included a sheep farm.
Tapei was our home base for the second week. I loved this city! Tapei 101 looks even more handsome in the evening.
And the streets are most alive in the evening.
I really enjoyed the food at this Shilin Night Market stand. You put the skewers of food you would like grilled in a basket, and wait for them to be prepared. I ate the best tofu ever nearly every day. We enjoyed lots of new fruits and vegetables as well.
To offset all that healthy eating, we visited one great bakery after another. This cake popsicle was a real highlight.
I brought home lots of interesting dried fruit and tea mixtures for some future infusions.
I like this photo very much of my daughter-in-law Eileen, hubby Raoul, myself, and our son Morgan taken at the second wedding feast. I was grateful that my qi-pao, the gorgeous dress I received from Cecilia to wear to the two fantastic wedding feasts, had some stretch to it. I had certainly “stretched” during our time in Taiwan! Most of all, I am grateful for this opportunity to travel through Taiwan with those that know and love this captivating country.
