Best Asia-Pacific Bartender

When I read that the 2012 Diageo Reserve winner for Best Asia-Pacific Bartender worked at Marsalis Bar in Tapei, I was pretty darn excited to add that place as a fieldtrip for our recent Taiwan trip. So quickly into our stay in Tapei, we found Marsalis Bar in the Home Hotel, not far from the landmark Tapei 101 building. Our guy was not working that night, but we sat ourselves down at the bar anyway, and found ourselves in cocktail heaven.
I ordered this spectacular drink containing Japanese whiskey, plum liqueur and shiso-infused sake. The presentation made my little heart go pitter pat.
Our daughter-in-law Eileen enjoys cachaca, and went with this beauty.
The bitters were poured onto the lime wheel, which was gorgeous. And the cocktail tasted as good as it looked. All of the cocktails we ordered were splendid, and we very much enjoyed visiting with our bartender Jeremy.
A few nights later, we trekked back to the Marsalis, and met Kae Yin, the bartender of distinction. And for good reason. Kae’s style is low key and gracious. Physically, he is one of the most graceful men I have seen behind the bar. His cocktails were divine. Absolutely dreamy creations.
I’m a sucker for an artful presentation. The scalloped rind wrapping the glass stem was inspired. As were the contents of the glass.
Kae Yin and Mama Beth. A great highlight of our stay in Tapei.
