Garden Old Fashioned Cocktail

This Garden Old Fashioned Cocktail is where a classic recipe gets a big tweak of flavor from the cocktail garden. A smashing Rhubarb-Anise Hyssop Syrup replaces the traditional sugar cube, orange slice and maraschino cherry. I used a lovely bourbon for my spirit, but you could use your favorite whiskey or rye instead.

Anise Hyssop

Anise hyssop really earns its’ keep in the cocktail garden. The flowers are gorgeous and attract all sorts of useful pollinators. The leaves have a bright, black licorice flavor. Anise hyssop is even fairly drought tolerant in our Northwest garden.

Once the Rhubarb-Anise Hyssop Syrup is made, you can create this Garden Old Fashioned Cocktail in a flash. There’s no pesky sugar cube to dissolve. And what’s not to like about bourbon, rhubarb and anise hyssop together?!
