My Rhubarb Cordial has transformed into a Rhubarb Elixir.
The last time you saw the Rhubarb Cordial, it was infusing away – on its’ way to being a happy, fruity liqueur. It’s the one on the right. In the meantime, I’ve been taking some herbal medicine classes, and also became smitten with tinctures. So after the rhubarb mixture was strained to remove the solids, I decided to add some rosemary and rose geranium tinctures to the Rhubarb Cordial, and sweeten it with some honey. The rhubarb is loaded with antioxidants. The rose geranium boosts your immune system, and the rosemary boosts your memory. One of the definitions I found for an elixir is a sweetened aromatic solution of alcohol and water, serving as a vehicle for medicine. Another description of an elixir was miraculous, magical, and maybe a little mysterious. Well what I know for sure is my Rhubarb Elixir tastes divine. And if it gives my health a little boost, that is a nice bonus.
- 6 cups Rhubarb Cordial (here’s that how to)
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 ounce rose geranium tincture (here’s more info on tinctures)
- 3/4 ounce rosemary tincture*
Mix together in a large glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Let the flavors blend together for a week. Shake the jar gently daily. The honey will incorporate into the liquid after a few days. Enjoy this Rhubarb Elixir in small glasses or by the spoonful.
