Vin D'Orange Mama Beth Style

I recently put my spin on the classic Vin D’Orange recipe. It’s a knock-out aperitif, using what is in season now. While indulging in my daily Pinterest fix, I found different Vin D’Orange versions. All had the traditional vanilla bean. As much as I enjoy a nice vanilla bean floating around in some liquor, I decided to skip that flavor. In its’ place went fresh rosemary, spicy black peppercorns, and my nod to winter spice – a small section of cinnamon stick.

  • 1 bottle good quality rose wine
  • 1 cup vodka
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 oranges (Seville if  possible– navels are fine and dandy too), sliced
  • 1 lemon (Meyers, when available), sliced
  • sprig of fresh rosemary
  • 1/8 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
  • 1” piece cinnamon stick

Place all of the above in a two quart glass jar with a tight fitting lid. Store away from heat and light. Give a gentle shake daily. Taste the infusion every few days, and pull the rosemary out when you feel that’s enough rosemary. Infuse a total of two weeks. Strain into a clean bottle, and store in the fridge. Use within two weeks. Enjoy by the glassful as an aperitif
