Manhattan – The Cocktail & The City
Posted on Tuesday, May 27th, 2014
I am endlessly fascinated with the Manhattan Cocktail, and all of its’ variations. My favorite cocktail, without a doubt. I am also smitten with Manhattan, the city. One of my favorite cities for sure. So it’s fitting to share my latest Manhattan Cocktail creation, after our recent return from visiting New York City, and attending the Manhattan Cocktail Classic for the third year.
First, the city. We ate exceptionally well, enjoyed the classes we attended at Pouring Ribbons and Madam Geneva, re-visited some of our favorite places, and explored some new neighborhoods. One memorable cocktail was at The Leopard at Des Artistes. I had The Muse, created by bartender Nelia Petrie, and had the pleasure of visiting with her, as we savored our drinks. Here’s my special souvenir to you from Manhattan – the recipe for this amaro-laden gem!
- 2.5 oz. Amaro Averna
- 1.5 oz. Amaro Nonino
- 1 oz. Cointreau
- Just a hint of lemon and lime juice
Shake with ice. Top with approximately 1 oz. Prosecco.
And now, my latest Manhattan Cocktail creation:
Averna Manhattan Cocktail
- 2 ounces rye – Woodinville Whiskey’s Rye is tiptop
- 3/4 ounce Averna
- 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth – Byrrh Grand Quinquina if you can find it
Stir with ice, and strain into your serving glass. Garnish with a brandied tart cherry.
